ბრემ სტოკერი, გოთიკური დრამის, გრაფ დრაკულას ავტორია. როდესაც კითხულობ "A Dream of Red Hands" -ს სულ გავიწყდება რომ დღეს ოცდამეერთე საუკუნეა. წერის მანერა გაიძულებს მეცხრამეტე ასწლეულში მოგზაურობას. უცნაური განცდაა წაიკითხო ისეთი რამ, რაც გიქმინის ძველი ეპოქის არარსებულ ნოსტალგიებს, თანაც როგორს ? მეცხრამეტე საუკუნის წითელი აგურებით ნაშენი სახლები და თივის ველებით გადაჭედილ, ფერმერთა ნაკვეთები. ბრემ სტოკერი დაიაბდა 1847 წელს, შვიდ წლამდე ავადმყოფობდა, რის გამოც ლოგინში იწვა თვეობით. თუმცა მოგვიანებით ფეხბურთსაც თამაშობდა და კარგი ათლეტიც გახლდათ. ის ანგლო-ირლანდიელი გახლდათ, პროტესტანტი, განათლება მიიღო ტრინიტის კოლეჯში, რომელიც დუბლინის ახლოს მდებარეობს, მუშაობდა ლონდონის, უესტ ენდის, ლიცეუმის თეატრში. იგი ნოველისტი იყო, მის შემოქმედებაში განსაკუთრებული ადგილი უკავია "ბნელ რომანტიზმს". პოს, უალდის, მსგავსად ჰორორს და მისტიკას მის ცხოვრებაში ცენტრალური ადგილი ეკავა. ის მოესწრო ვიქტორიანულ და გიორგიანულ ეპოქებს. გარდაიცვალა მძიმე ავადმყოფობის შედეგად 1912 წელს, ბიოგრაფები თვლიან რომ იგი სიფილისისაგან დაიღუპა. ამ კრებულში წარმოდგენილია მისი 15 საუკეთესო მოთხრობა.

Hamilton
left
Mr.
Stedman's
cottage
in

dejection.

brightened

prospect

along

streets
till

got
to
his
office,
and
when
once
there
he
had
so
much
work
to
do
that
little
time
was
left
him
for
reflection
until
his
work
for
the
day
was
over.
That
night
he
lay
awake,
trying

all
the
intentness
of
his
nature
to
conceive
some
plan
by
which
he
might
make
the
necessary
sum
to
entitle
him
to
seek
the
hand

Ellen
Stedman:
